EEMS2024 Was Successfully Held!

The 2024 International Forum on Environmental Electrochemistry and Membrane Separation Technology Innovation (EEMS2024) was successfully held in Beijing, China on Aug. 9-11, 2024. It is hosted by Chinese Society of Particuology, and co-organized by China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing, Southwest Jiaotong University, North China Electric Power University, University of Science and Technology of China, SINOPEC Research Institute of Petroleum Processing Co., Ltd., New Jersey Institute of Technology and Clarkson University.
EEMS2024 is co-chaired by Prof.Hanqing Yu (CAE) from University of Science and Technology of China and Prof. Wonyong Choi (NAE) from Korea Institute of Energy Technology. Prof. Junfeng Niu from North China Electric Power University, Prof. Wen Zhang from New Jersey Institute of Technology, Prof. Jianbing Wang from China University of Mining & Technology-Beijing and Mr. Hui Wang (Director) from Sinopec Research Institute of Petroleum Processing together served as Executive Conference Chairs of EEMS2024. Facing the key and hot development directions in the field of environmental electrochemistry and membrane separation, EEMS2024 brings together world-renowned scholars to share the latest scientific research and discuss the technological frontiers, and aims to promote international academic exchanges and cooperation.
Since its preparation, EEMS2024 has received extensive attention and support from academia worldwide, attracting total more than 210 well-known scholars, excellent students, and industry leaders from 6 countries. There are 5 plenary lectures, 18 keynote reports, 52 invited reports, 22 oral reports and 19 posters in total.

01 Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony of EEMS2024 was held at 8:30 am on Aug. 10, 2024. Firstly, Prof. Wen Zhang from New Jersey Institute of Technology gave a brief introduction of EEMS2024. Then Mr. Le Wang from Sinopec Science & Technology R&D Dept. delivered the opening address, extending a warm welcome to the participants and wishing EEMS2024 a complete success. Prof. Junfeng Niu from North China Electric Power University also delivered the opening address and issued the EEMS2024 Chair’s Certificates to Prof. Hanqing Yu and Prof. Wonyong Choi.

02 Plenary Lectures
On Aug. 10, Prof. Wonyong Choi(NAE) from Korea Institute of Energy Technology, Prof. John Crittenden (NAE) from Georgia Institute of Technology, Prof. Xie Quan from Dalian University of Technology, Prof. Yujie Feng from Harbin Institute of Technology, and Prof. Hanqing Yu (CAE) from University of Science and Technology of China delivered plenary lectures on “Engineering photo-induced electron transfers on semiconductors for sustainable purpose”, “Revelation of the mechanisms that are involved in electrochemical oxidation using a heterogeneous kinetic model”, “Nanocarbon-based electroconductive membranes for water treatment”, “Key technologies and development mode of coupled grey-green water pollution purification”, “Direct Oxidative Transfer Process (DOTP) for Water Purification”, respectively, which brought a rich academic feast to the participants.

03 Session Lectures
In addition to the plenary lectures, EEMS2024 also focused on 5 sessions, including “Electrocatalysis and membrane technologies for environmental remediation”, “Electrocatalysis and membrane technologies for water treatment”, “Electrocatalysis and membrane technologies in industrial applications”, “Environmental electrochemical sensors”, “Innovative electrochemical research nexus in energy and water production”. It covered a wide range of fields such as chemical industry, energy, materials, and environment. The reports were quite vivid and exciting, attracting many scholars in related fields to listen. The attendees actively participated in academic exchanges and discussions, and the reporters fully answered the questions from the audience. The academic atmosphere of the venue was strong, showing the innovative vitality of scientific and technological workers in the development of science and technology.
04 Posters and Exhibition
Meanwhile, EEMS2024 has showed 19 posters from various academic disciplines. Researchers used concise and vivid charts, images, and text to introduce their research topics and findings. Attendees gathered around the posters, listening attentively, asking questions, and engaging in in-depth discussions with the authors. This interaction fostered interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration.
EEMS2024 also attracted Wuhan Gaoss Union Technology Co., LTD, The U.S.-China Environmental Education Foundation and other leading companies to attend. The latest scientific and technological products and application fields were displayed to the participants, which promoted the exchanges between enterprises, universities and research institutes.
05 Certificates Issuance
The organizing committee of EEMS2024 selected Excellent Presentation and Excellent Poster, and invited Prof. Wonyong Choi and Prof. Xie Quan to present certificates. At last, the four executive conference chairs jointly raised their glasses to welcome all the participants, to celebrate the successful holding of EEMS2024 and look forward to meet again in the next conference!

06 Technical Visit
On the afternoon of August 11, Prof. Wen Zhang, one of the executive conference chairs, led more than 20 experts and scholars to visit the Beijing Niulanshan Erguotou Cultural Garden in Beijing. The staff in the Cultural Garden explained Chinese liquor culture, development process, production process, type identification, etc. Everyone listened carefully with great interest.
Subsequently, the experts team visited the Borun Science and Technology Park in Houshayu town, and conducted in-depth discussion and exchanges with town leaders Mr. Qiang Li, Tianran Zhang and Yunxiang Meng on park construction, enterprise settlement, industrial development, talent introduction, academic achievements and other aspects. The experts team felt that Houshayu Town is a diverse, inclusive and open region with a strong international atmosphere and great potential for future development, and hope to enhance friendly exchanges in the future, carry out more in-depth cooperation in scientific and technological innovation, intelligent manufacturing and other aspects, and contribute to the regional economic development.
07 Conclusion
The 2024 International Forum on Environmental Electrochemistry and Membrane Separation Technology Innovation has successfully concluded. We extend our sincere gratitude to all participants for their insightful contributions and enthusiastic engagement, as well as to the Houshayu town government for their invaluable support of EEMS2024. This forum has provided a premier platform for experts and scholars in the field to exchange cutting-edge theories and practical applications, discuss the latest research advancements and future development trends, and foster both academic collaboration and industrial partnerships. The event has significantly contributed to advancing the research and application of environmental electrochemistry and membrane separation technology on an international scale.
